LocalFinds is a new business model from Walmart Marketplace aiming to connect local sellers to Walmart customers in their area, ensuring same-day delivery.

How might we design an experience for local sellers that expands Walmart’s assortment, supports same-day fulfillment, and helps merchants grow their local reach in a way that benefits both sides?

A key challenge was to maintain all stakeholders aligned on the same north star. Since this was a new business model and it was maturing on the go (feeling like a little startup inside of a bigger ecosystem) it was important to constantly revisit our processes and identify gaps in areas where we needed more information. That’s why I co-led a workshop with UX researchers for alignment and get insights from business for further research efforts with sellers.

This will later help me and my design partner with our product partners to prioritize high-impact solutions and easy-wins for the roadmap, based on sellers’ needs and pain points.

LocalFinds is a layer across Walmart Marketplace, that’s why connecting with design teams and other dependencies was the most important challenge and it was essential to guarantee seamless integration for LocalFinds sellers E2E experience: Onboarding, store setup, returns, marketing, payments. I partnered up with other designers and product managers to facilitate integration.

As a new business model, LocalFinds needed to prove its value to gain visibility and priority. To move forward, we made strategic trade-offs in the product and experience design. A critical challenge was embedding LocalFinds within Seller Center’s existing information architecture. Through cross-team collaboration and multiple design iterations, we developed a navigation approach that felt cohesive and intuitive while working around limitations.

As a new business model, LocalFinds needed to prove its value to gain visibility and priority. To move forward, we made strategic trade-offs in the product and experience design. A critical challenge was embedding LocalFinds within Seller Center’s existing information architecture. Through cross-team collaboration and multiple design iterations, we developed a navigation approach that felt cohesive and intuitive while working around limitations.

A LocalFinds account can have multiple stores operating from different locations while a regular shipping account is a single store front in Walmart marketplace, so we needed to adapt the architecture to support each individual store management.
